I’ve got a 74 Ghia with a  SoCal autostick conversion done in 2020. It has the orginal shift rod. I see I need the conversion coupler. The problem I have is -With a manual shifter and lock out plate the shifter ball seems to set too low in the shift rod socket. I can shift into reverse with out pushing the shifter down.Looks like the shifter should be raised up a little to engage the lock out. With the conversion, after I put the longer coupler on, do I need something different at the shifter and lock out plate?  The shifter and lock out plate is a stock 74 Superbeetle. If more info is needed or reply to dkb2155@msn.com Thamks Dave

Hi David,

After reading your question, the more likely problem is that the lock-out plate is not installed correctly.  The lock-out tab will be installed facing down and to the passenger side.
There should be no difference between the auto stick shifter and the manual trans shifter when it comes to the depth that the shifters reach. If you still need more help, please call the shop and asked to speak with me.

Thanks, Andy
