Battery dies

Bought a brand new battery for our 73 and something is draining it over time.   If it is not driven for a few weeks… the battery is weak and then dies. Took the battery back to farm and fleet and they replaced it.   Same thing happens.   We are wondering if the voltage regulator is bad.   Thank you.  Also do you have a diagram of what all the electrical things are… under my back seat where my voltage regulator is? Thanks again

Hi Valerie,

Thanks for the question and sorry your having this problem.

First, I would recommend installing a battery disconnect on the car.  This is super easy and will protect the battery from going dead while sitting.  We do sell this item, #971030 https://socalautoparts.com/product/battery-quick-disconnect/

You will still need to find out what is causing the current draw and fix the problem.  There can be all sorts of things causing this.  Usually it is a process of eliminating circuits to isolate the problem.  But this will take someone being able to get in and work on the car, and that is more than I can help with on this side of the keyboard!

Thanks,

Andy
