Control Arm Install – See Plates – Red Circle
Dear Andy,
Sorry I do not have the part number or sales order number, but I did receive the control arms for the 1978 VW Bus a few weeks ago. My technician Wally is trying to install and cannot get these plates to stay together (red circle) in attachment. Any recommendations to get these on? I have searched, but cannot find out the info. Many thanks for any help you can give me.
Hi Travis,
I am happy to help! The items you have circled are called torsion spring plates. Based on your photo, your control arm should be able to go on the bottom spring plate pack.
These spring plates go all the way through the beam. In the center of the beam will be a grub bolt and nut, just like the ones that hold the control arms on. There will be 1 on the top tube and 1 on the lower tube. These grub bolts hold the spring pack into the beam. I suggest that you loosen these grub bolts a small amount. Do not loosen the grub bolt too much or the spring packs will want to move out of the beam when you are installing the arms! This will take tension off the spring pack and allow you to move the springs back into the shape needed for the arms to be installed.
I hope this gives you the information you need
Thanks, Andy
