E-Brake Cable Length

Hello Andy,

I have a 1973 standard Beetle with IRS (VIN 1132025210) and purchased a rear disc brake conversion kit with e-brake (133698601PBE).  After installation and routing the e-brake cables, the e-brake cables are about 80mm too long.  The length of the e-brake cable supplied in the kit is ~1837mm.  Was an incorrect e-brake cable supplied with the kit or was there another rear disc brake conversion kit that was supposed to be used?  Is a shorter e-brake cable available?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

I’m sorry to hear everything on your kit didn’t work out of the box.  The interchange on the rear disc brake kits is 1968-1972 and 1973-1979.  Since you were kind enough to include your VIN, I looked at a database that I use from thesamba.com. According to this page, https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php, your VIN of 1132025210 is a very early 1973, actually produced early Sept. 1972.  I believe this is the reason these cables are too long.

The 1968-1972 cables are #113615721 and are approximately 69 ¾” long.

The 1973-1979 cables are #133615721 and are approximately 71 ¾” long.

We are happy to exchange the 133615721 longer cables for the 113615721 shorter cables.  Please call in and ask for Leticia.  She is here Monday-Friday, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Pacific.

Thanks,

Andy
