I bought the overhaul kit and this is first time rebuilding an engine when putting the rods on the crankshaft the rods are excessively tight even prior to torquing down to 25 foot pounds. Does the crankshaft need repaired at a machine shop to accept the new rods?

Hi Derek,

I looked to see what parts that you have bought.  If everything is being assembled correctly there should be no need for extra machine work on the crank or rods.

Have you used a micrometer and measured the parts?

Are the rod caps going back on the rod body in the correct way?  If the cap is being installed upside down, you will have an alignment issue.

Are the rods upside down?  There is a right way and a wrong way to install the rods onto the crankshaft.

Is the problem with only 1 rod or all of them?
