I am wondering if you have any experience with the transmission nose cone adapter mount that you sell to allow a 3-bolt transaxle from a ’73 Bug to be installed into a ’69 Bug?  I’ve read a couple of reviews (that were from several years ago) and they both mention that it places the nose cone too low and causes it to hit the torsion bar housing.   By looking at the picture on your website, this appears to be true unless the manufacturer has addressed this issue.  I’ve considered installing a 2-bolt nose cone, but I’ve read that the inside needs to be machined a little bit for it to work properly.  Do you know if this is true?  This is my first time diving into a transaxle so my knowledge is limited.   I bought the car with the mismatched transaxle and the homemade mount is a little on the scary side.

Thanks for your time,

Hi Brian,

I have looked into your concerns.  This is not a super popular part.  We have had this item in our offering for about 3 years.  Out of the 30 or so mounts that we have sold, this is the first noted question.  I have reached out to the owner of the company that we buy this item from, but he has not been available due to an injury.

As for changing the nose cone.  Totally doable.  There is no difference.  No machine work is necessary.  What you have read on the internet is not true, although it is not uncommon that the inside of the 3 bolt nose cone gets a groove worn in it from the bearing that is there.  Someone that is unfamiliar with a VW transmission might think that it is supposed to be like that, when in fact, the nose cone should be flat.

All of our rebuilt transmissions are stocked without a nose cone installed so we can mix/match whatever the customer needs.
