Good Afternoon, When using the master cylinder for the 1967 vw bus part no. 211-611-011QSP. On the picture I see there are two stop switch’s.  Do you need two stop switch’s or can you use one? If you need two, how do they work together?? Thanks for any help.

Hi Tom,

By 1967, all VW-produced cars imported into America were equipped with dual-circuit master cylinders. When VW did this, the cars also had redundant or dual stop light switches. This was done so that a warning light would show the driver if there was a bias problem in the hydraulic braking system. This means that if the car leaked in the front or the rear hydraulic section, the pressure imbalance would turn the red light in the dash on as a warning of the problem.

We commonly get this question when car owners update their 1966 or older VW with the new (and better) dual circuit style master cylinders.

The answer is simply no.  You do not need to run 2 stop light pressure switches.  One is all you will need to operate the stoplights.  Not running the second switch will not cause any problems in the braking system.

You will need a 10mm x 1.0 metric pipe plug to fill the extra hole in the master cylinder.  The metric plug is not common and is hard to find.  No worries, So Cal Imports stock this item, part #611906
