Master Cylinder
Good afternoon, I have a couple of questions. 1. I bought the no hassle disc brake kit Part No. 498560 for a 1967 vw bus for the front brakes. I also bought the rear disc brake kit Part No. 113698601DE for a 1968 vw beetle transaxle that I put into the bus. I know that the master cylinder 211-611-011QSP already had the check valve removed for the front brakes. Is there a check valve that needs to be removed for the rear brakes?? If so, how do you remove it. If there is a check valve is it built into the piece that threads into the master cylinder?? Or do you do nothing??
Question 2, Do you have the emergency brake cables for the 1967 bus that attach to the brake calipers for Kit No. 113698601DE? 68 to 72 bug? Hope you can help.
Thank you. Tom Hyden
Hi Tom,
Thank you for your purchase.
The master that came in the 498560 kit will need to have the residual check valve for the rear brake circuit modified to work with the rear calipers. The check valve is built into the fitting that screws into the master. Before attaching the rear brake line to the master cylinder, the fitting must be unscrewed from the master cylinder. Once removed, you will see a stamped tin nipple. Inside this nipple is a spring and check ball. Gentilly hold the fitting in a vise; be careful not to crush the fitting. Take a pair of plyers and grab the tin nipple and twist. It will pop off of the fitting, make sure and confirm the spring and check ball comes with it. Look to confirm the fitting is clear and unrestricted. Reinstall the fitting. When I do this job, I usually use a little blue Loctite on the threads to help it seal.
You will need to have custom cables made for the E-brake cables. We send customers to a local company for this reason. If you do not have a local cable company, please call, and we will be happy to share contact info with you.
Thanks, Andy
