I need to no how many bolts and washers do I need to put the body back on the chassis? Are they all the same length? Also what protectant do u recommend for painting the top and underneath of the chassis? How much do I buy and how many coats? And then do I spray just the underneath with a rubberized primer for extra protection? I no nothing about what I’m doing, my person that started to restore my bug is no longer available after he has completely tore it apart. I’m 58 yr old female that can’t even change oil! Please help.. thank u very much, Kim

Hi Kim,

Thank you for your honesty in where you are at with your VW.  Just know that we are all about helping our customers! I am sorry that you have been put into this position.

There is a lot to unpack here.  Before I go to deep into things, have you spent any time looking at YouTube videos?  I believe there would be good info and education to be had by watching videos of the processes you are trying to complete.

So Cal Imports does sell a great pan hardware kit to install the body back on the pan.  You will need 2 kits:

You will also need a pan to body seal, only 1 pcs needed:

As for the paint, this will need to be determined by the condition of the floor pan.  The more rust the more prep work.  POR-15 makes a great product that will kill and seal the rust.  You might also contact a local powder coater to see what they might charge to sandblast and coat a floor pan. With my current project, it will be cheaper and better to have the pan powder coated!

I hope that this will start to help you along on this process!

Thanks, Andy
