Squeak on disc brakes

Andy,

Bought the disc brake conversion kit this past June. Wow!  Awesome, easy to do and works better than I expected.

I do get an  infrequent squeak, when I first touch the brake pedal, not everytime when I apply the brakes.  Occasionally.   Should I assume that I should just take the pads out and grease the pins and contact points?  Any other thoughts?

Thanks again and I can’t tell you how awesome the upgrade is.  I should not have waited so long.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for your kind words about our AC Industries kit for your Super Beetle!

I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing a squeak. Intermittent items such as this are the hardest to diagnose correctly.

I am wondering if you are getting more of a whistle.  This can happen with lite brake pedal pressure and is caused by the 90-degree angle of the brake pad to the rotor face.  If this is the case, remove the brake pads and chamfer the edge of the friction material all the way around the pad.  Adding grease to the pins cannot hurt either while you’re at it.

Please let me know if this helps or if we need to work more on this.

Thanks, Andy
