weber 44 carb / 034 SVDA dist.
I installed a 034 svda dist that needs 8 in. of vacuum according to the pretonics web site. I’m getting the vacuum from a pair of weber 44s on a 2 liter engine. The problem is they only have 3 inches of vacuum between them. the engine bogs if you step on it hard from idle. so I need the vacuum advance to work?? THANK YOU for your time
Hi Patrick,
There is a bit more to unpack here.
First, running a vacuum advance distributor with dual Weber carburetors is unusual. I am assuming here that you are using Weber IDF-style carburetors. Most engine builders would opt to go with a mechanical-only advance distributor. My question is, where are you getting your vacuum source? If your Webers are newer, there are ported vacuum ports, but these are for each cylinder.
Second, the problem in your low vacuum supply could be your camshaft. If you are running a larger performance camshaft, it is very possible that this is your problem with a low vacuum signal.
Third, it is more likely that your throttle lag is due to incorrect jetting in your carburetors than a vacuum advance problem.
If it were me, I would remove the vacuum distributor and look at installing one of the new PDP ignition kits. I just installed this system on my personal VW Thing with a 2016cc with dual 40 IDF’s. It works amazing right out of the box!
Thanks Andy
