Wiper Motor Location
I am trying to locate the motor for the windshield wiper on my beetle. I believe I have a bad ground as when the fuse is in the motor runs not stop. Do you have any pictures of where the motor is under the front hood? I feel like I should be able to find it very easily but for some reason am not able to.
Thanks
Dan
Hi Dan,
Thanks for the question.
Yes, the motor is mounted under the cowl where the wiper pivots come through to attach the wiper arms.
If your car is equipped with an “under dash wire cover” you will need to remove this to get to the wiper motor.
To remove the wiper motor you will need to do the following:
1)Disconnect your battery, there are a bunch of power wires in the area and you DO NOT want to short these out!
2)remove the wiper arms.
3)Depending on the radio, you might need to remove it.
4)Remove the bolt that holds the wiper motor support bracket to the body.
5)Remove the nuts on the wiper pivots on top where these come through the body.
6)Remove the wires from the wiper motor, making notes to what pin each wire comes from. (side note, take a photo with your phone of the wires before you remove them)
7)Push the wiper pivots down and out of the body, the motor and cradle should not rotate and drop out.
Here is a link to the wiper motor so you have a photo to help you ID the part:

Hope this all helps,
