Description
This is a tried and true master cylinder combination that has been used for year on Buggies. This master cylinder and reservoir are from a 1966 and older VW Bus. This master cylinder has a screw on reservoir that make for a self-contained unit for ease of installation. It has a 22mm bore and will power most 4 wheel drum brakes. It is not recommended for cars with four wheel disc brakes.
A question that is frequently asked is what is the difference between a single circuit and a dual circuit master cylinder. In a single circuit master cylinder, it only has one inlet port for the brake fluid and one piston to move the brake fluid. On a dual circuit master cylinder, there are 2 inlets for the brake fluid and 2 pistons to move the brake fluid, allowing the front brakes to work independently from the rear. On the single circuit master, if you blow out a wheel cylinder or brake flex line you will lose all your braking, but on a dual circuit master cylinder, in the same scenario, you will only lose the braking on the half that has been affected. All original VW braking systems went to dual circuit master cylinders in 1967.
These below kits are a great dual circuit alternative:
- For customers who prefer a dual circuit master cylinder, try our #113698015K
- For cars with four wheel disc brakes we recommend our #113698020K kit
Note:
- This kit is not designed to be used on a car with disc brakes.
- For the best seal between the master cylinder and reservoir, we recommend the copper sealing ring, Part# 211611229
