I have a ’58 Convertible in need of front and rear fenders. Do you recommend to spend the high prices of original ’58 fenders or will aftermarket fenders work? What are the differences? Thank you

Hi Sal,

Given the choice, it is always best to use original sheet metal. The fit is better. That being said, good used parts are becoming more and more difficult to find. On the 1967 and older hood, there is only one factory at this time making this hood. It is correct for the 1963-1967 year models, but it will fit the 1962 and older. This hood is stamped in Italy.

Same goes for the front fenders. What is available is really correct for the 1964-1966 Bugs, but will work on the 1963 and older cars. Rear fenders are available from different factories in the world.

NOTE: when buying fenders, always buy the left and right fenders in the same brands. Mixing brands can be a problem. Each factory has their own tooling for their part. I have seen left and right different brand fenders have headlight buckets and light holes off by as much as 3/4″.

Thanks, Andy
