Our Freeway Flyers feature a professionally rebuilt IRS 12 volt transmission loaded with a 3.88 ring & pinion with a .89 4th gear to give your ride the extra legs. Fits models 1969 to 1970. Core Charge and Exchange Explained: Core return must be 3.88 Ring & Pinion to receive full core deposit credit.
• To receive full core deposit cores must be the same as the purchased transmission. Full credit cannot be given for a swing axle transmission for an IRS transmission.
• Rebuildable 12 volt IRS with 3.88 ring & pinion trans transmission receive $350.00 deposit refund.
• Rebuildable 12 volt IRS without 3.88 ring & pinion transmission cores receive $175.00 deposit refund.
• Rebuildable 6 volt swing axle transmission cores receive $100.00 deposit refund.
• Oil must be drained before shipping transmission cores! A $25.00 disposal fee will be charged for any transmission cores that has not been drained of gear oil prior to being returned.
All transmission cores must be deemed rebuildable by the transmission builder. Broken or damaged components on a transmission will reduce or, in some cases, void your core refund. The biggest problem we find nowadays is water is, or has been, in the transmission. Water and gear oil mixed become acidic and will eat holes through a magnesium transmission case!! Water also rusts the gears, bearings, and components inside the transmission. If your core transmission has water inside it, the chances are good that the core is worthless.
All transmission cores must be like for like. In other words, we cannot give you full credit for a swing axle transmission when you ordered an IRS transmission.
Due to the impossibility of purchasing parts to rebuild the 1966 and older 6-volt transmissions, we can NO LONGER accept 6-volt transmission cores. It is not just that the bell housing is smaller, it is that these transmissions also require different bearings and synchros that are no longer available.
Important: There are some exceptions, so if unsure, PLEASE CALL FIRST before ordering.
Please understand, we MUST have your transmission core. Without good cores, there is not going to be rebuilt parts put back into circulation. Please do your part to keep our cars going for years to come!
